Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI) is an archipelago made up of 40 islands located in the Caribbean, but an overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Without a doubt, the sea is the main protagonist of a trip to TCI, which has an extensive territory of stunning beaches and is considered one of the best places in the world for diving. We are also talking about one of the most sophisticated destinations in the Caribbean, which has entered the tourist route of millionaires and Hollywood celebrities due to its paradisiacal and exclusive beaches.
How to get there?
Most tourists arrive by connecting in the United States, mainly in Miami, which is just over an hour’s flight away. Several companies travel from an American city to Providenciales (the main and most touristic city in Turks and Caicos): American Airlines, JetBlue Airways, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Inter Caribbean, and Southwest.
How many days to stay?
Do you have time and a budget? 7 days. Accommodation isn’t cheap, but you’re going to a paradisiacal destination and it’s almost impossible for someone not to like TCI. With 7 days there is time to get to know and enjoy the hotel, do activities, and even go on trips and visit other beaches. If you don’t have this availability, in 5 full days you can already enjoy it a lot.
Villa Providenciales
Staying in Villa Providenciales is what we recommend if you want to enjoy your TCI holiday with luxurious facilities but at an affordable price. The villa is managed by White Villas and the company is one of the providers of luxury villas there which has received many positive reviews from travelers. For us, staying in Villa Providenciales is the first step to enjoying a “complete holiday” at TCI because you can enjoy everything in one package; a private pool, five-star facilities, great transportation, and everything you need to explore the islands. What about typical Turks and Caicos culinary delights? You don’t need to worry because Villa Providenciales provides everything including a private chef!
About the islands
Only 9 of the 40 islands are inhabited, the most touristy ones being: Providenciales, Grand Turk, South Caicos, East Caicos, West Caicos, North Caicos, and Middle Caicos.
– Providenciales: also known as Provo, it is not the capital nor the largest island, but it is where all international flights arrive, it is the most developed, with the greatest infrastructure, and where the majority of hotels and resorts are located.
– South Caicos: if you choose to visit a second island (which few tourists do) our tip is South Caicos, which has an exuberant beauty, with much less infrastructure than Providenciales, but with some good hotels and restaurants.
– Grand Turk: it is the capital of Turks and Caicos and an island full of culture and history as it was the place where Christopher Columbus landed in 1492. The island is excellent for diving and has a large local population, especially when compared to the too much, but it is little explored for tourism.
– Middle Caicos: it is the largest island in the archipelago and has beautiful sea and beaches. If you think about just enjoying the sea and the rest being just details, this could be a good option for a few days with lots of diving and water sports.
– North Caicos: it is the greenest island and that is why it is nicknamed the “Garden Island”. It has many birds and even some other wild animals and, like the others, it is excellent for diving. It is little visited by tourists.
– Salt Cay: according to the locals themselves, it is the island that was forgotten by time. It doesn’t have many attractions and is not worth the visit.
How to get between the islands
To visit South Caicos, Grand Turk, and Salt Cay you need to take a very quick flight (less than 30 minutes) on a small plane operated by Caicos Express. To go from Providenciales to North Caicos and Middle Caicos there is a ferry connecting the islands. By staying at Villa Providenciales, you can organize your trip much more easily because dedicated staff will attend to all your needs.
