Despite their happy-go-lucky nature, our furry loved ones can experience stress just as we do. So, it’s key to note the stress triggers in dogs and ensure that those situations are often remedied. This will go a long way in helping maintain their overall well-being and managing the anxiety they might have to deal with.

What Are Common Stressors to Avoid or Watch Out For?

New environments or changes in their routine can be a common stressor. These may be unavoidable, so you want to ensure it is handled as quickly as possible. Another is not getting them enough exercise, which can lead to pent-up energy, which leads to frustration and boredom.

Socialization is also key, both with other animals and dogs and with you. Without it, it can lead to separation anxiety, as your dog always loves to be the center of attention!

What Do Signs of Stress in Dogs Look Like in Your Dog?

They can be changes in their regular behavior, such as:

  • Too much barking
  • Destructive behavior
  • Whining and trembling
  • Loss of appetite
  • Pacing around or hiding

There could also be more obvious physical signs, such as flattened ears or a tucked-in tail, as well as excessive drooling and yawning.

How To Calm a Stressed Dog?

Don’t worry, as there are many ways for you to be able to handle stress and anxiety in your dogs. First, get them back on track to a normal routine and schedule. Their routine includes:

  • Feeding
  • Walks
  • Playtime
  • Training and other activities.

Ensure that includes adequate exercise so they aren’t always frustrated and full of energy. At the same time, you want to start to desensitize your dogs, which can cause stress. This means gradually exposing them to potential triggers in a safe environment so they can recover and realize it isn’t a major deal. Use positive reinforcement tactics as well, as that can help with their discipline and reward them for handling the stressors better.

Activity is great, but you also want to focus on mental stimulation as well. Mental stimulation can help keep your dog focused and their mind active; puzzles and interactive games are ideal to keep them guessing. This is also a great option when it comes to wanting to train your dog.

You can also consider CBD for stressed dogs. Cannabinoids have become a popular go-to in conjunction with other methods to help relieve stress and calm your dog. There are specialized pet products that ensure the correct dosages and are perfectly safe for your dog. This can be an excellent option when you’re looking for dog stress relief products out there.

Stay Calm in General

Your dog is very perceptive of how you’re feeling and will mirror your mood. This means that if your mood is calm and positive, your dog will be as well. If you’re stressed out and anxious, your dog will pick up on it, so self-awareness goes a long way, too. The first thing you want to avoid is panic about your dog being stressed out, as that will only compound the issue.

It’s also not a situation that will instantly be resolved, which means you’ll want to show a blend of consistency and patience when it comes to reducing the stressors in your dog’s life. While CBD treats can be an excellent option, they need to be combined with other activities to reap the most benefits in bringing your dog’s stress levels back down to an average level. Your furry friend doesn’t have to suffer with these tips and remedies.
